This recent project was a little closer to home—literally. Rob and his crew installed a brand-new seamless gutter system on the Madison, Ohio home of one of our own Synergy Roofing & Construction employees.
The home’s old gutters were leaking and no longer directing rainwater away from the house properly. While worn-out gutters may not always seem like an urgent problem, the damage they cause can extend far beyond the roofline.
The Problem With Leaking Gutters
When gutters leak, overflow, or pull away from the home, water can collect around the foundation instead of being safely carried away. Over time, that moisture may find its way into the basement or crawlspace.
In this case, the basement had become noticeably damp. Some of the walls were beginning to look crusty and deteriorated, with visible signs of moisture and minor water damage.
That chalky or crusty buildup on basement walls can sometimes be caused by moisture moving through concrete or masonry and leaving mineral deposits behind. While new gutters cannot reverse damage that has already occurred, properly directing water away from the foundation can help address one of the major sources of the moisture.
Why Seamless Gutters Are a Smart Upgrade
Unlike traditional sectional gutters, seamless gutters are formed specifically to fit the home. Because they have fewer joints and connection points, there are fewer places where leaks can develop.
Seamless gutters also offer:
A cleaner, more finished appearance
Fewer seams that may separate or leak
A custom fit for the home
Improved water flow when properly installed
Better protection for siding, landscaping, foundations, and basements
More Than Just a Cosmetic Improvement
New gutters can certainly improve the appearance of a home, but their most important job is controlling water.
A properly installed gutter and downspout system collects rainwater from the roof and carries it away from the house. This can help reduce soil erosion, foundation moisture, basement dampness, stained siding, damaged fascia, and water pooling around the home.
With the old, leaky gutters removed and the new seamless system installed, this Madison home is now better equipped to handle Ohio’s rain and snowmelt while protecting the areas below.
Are Your Gutters Showing Signs of Failure?
It may be time to have your gutters inspected if you notice:
Water dripping from seams
Gutters overflowing during rain
Sagging or pulling away from the roof
Water pooling near the foundation
Dampness or musty odors in the basement
Peeling paint or rotting wood near the roofline
Stains on the siding
Crusty or chalky deposits on basement walls
Small gutter problems can become much larger water-damage problems when they are ignored.
