What Does Owens Corning Summer Harvest Look Like on a House?

Choosing a new roof is a big decision — and one of the hardest parts can be choosing the right shingle color.
A small shingle sample can give you an idea of the colors involved, but it doesn’t always show you what that color will look like across an entire roof. That’s especially true on a large home where the roof makes up a major part of the exterior.
One of our recent roof replacements in Ontario, Ohio is a perfect example.
A Massive Ontario, Ohio Roof in Summer Harvest
For this project, the homeowners selected Owens Corning Summer Harvest shingles.
On a home this large, shingle color matters. There is a tremendous amount of visible roof surface, so the color becomes a major part of the home's overall appearance rather than simply blending into the background.
Summer Harvest brings together warm, earthy tones with plenty of dimension and variation. Once installed across this expansive Ontario roof, those different shades created a rich, textured appearance that you simply can't appreciate from looking at a small shingle sample alone.
The finished roof complements the home beautifully while giving the property a completely refreshed look.
Why Shingle Colors Look Different on a Full Roof
When homeowners begin shopping for shingles, they'll often look at a manufacturer's sample board or a single shingle.
Those are helpful, but there are several things they can't fully show you.
The appearance of a roof can change depending on:
The size and pitch of the roof
How much of the roof is visible from the ground
Sunlight and shade throughout the day
The siding, brick, stone, trim and other exterior colors
The natural color variation throughout the shingles
The surrounding trees and landscape
A color that looks very dark on a small sample may appear much softer when spread across an entire roof. Likewise, shingles with several blended tones can create much more depth and movement once thousands of them are installed together.
That's why seeing shingles on real completed homes can be so helpful.

At Synergy Roofing & Construction, we install Owens Corning shingles, and we've been building a Shingle Color Portfolio on our website using photographs from our own completed roofing projects.
Instead of trying to imagine how a small sample might translate to your home, you can browse different shingle colors installed on actual houses throughout Ohio.

Our goal is to make choosing a roof a little easier by giving homeowners a realistic look at different options before making their final decision.
As we complete more projects, we'll continue adding additional colors and examples to the portfolio.
Considering Summer Harvest for Your Home?
If you're drawn to warmer, dimensional roof colors, Owens Corning Summer Harvest may be worth considering.
The Ontario project shows just how much character this color can bring to a large roof, particularly when the home has enough roof surface to showcase the variation within the shingles.
Of course, every home is different. Your siding, trim, architecture and surroundings all play a role in determining which shingle color will look best.
If you're planning a roof replacement and aren't sure which direction to go, Synergy Roofing & Construction can walk you through your options and help you choose a roofing system and color that works with your home.
